QUESTION: It could be from england to anywhere, all i need to know is do you need to have a passport in england to go to another country?

Answer
Sorry if I've not made it clear, but it depends on the country.

For Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, no, you do not.

For any other country that I can think of, you would not be allowed to enter without proof of identity, and therefore a passport is the best option. Similarly, many countries insist on you having acceptable identity papers on you at all times, so, again, a passport would be required.

Additionally, most airlines, ferries etc will check you have permission and a passport to travel abroad, as they get heavily fined if they take soemone without permission to enter another country.

There are some exceptions, so if you wish to let me have more details of your query, I'd be very happy to help.

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
