Question
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.  I have found it very helpful.
By chance, can you suggest transport from Brussels (actually Banneux) to Harwich?
Thank you very much.
Joan

Answer
Hi - there's a few options, none of them particularly easy - I'd need more info of the dates / times you're intending to travel to give exact answers, please - for instance, if you're leaving Harwich on a ship, I'd be able to work backwards, and try and ensure you weren't stuck in the port all day!

That said, there is a number 64 bus runs from Banneux approx every 2 hours to Liege-Guillemins.

From there you can take trains (just under 4 hours with 2 or 3 changes of train at Brussels, Antwerp and Rotterdam) to the Hoek of Holland (in the Netherlands) and there are 2 ferries from there to Harwich - one runs during the day and the other overnight.

The alternative - but it's a long way round - is the same bus to Liege, train to Brussels then a Eurostar (200mph international train under the English Chennel) to London.

Then you'd take a taxi or public transport to London's Liverpool Street Station and catch a train to Harwich ...told you it was a long way around - but would actually probably be quicker!

Let me know more details and I'll be very happy to help - note that I'm away for 12 days from Thursday night London time, please.

Happy to help!

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
