Britain/United Kingdom/England/Old Castle in the UK

Question
I bought this old printers cut about 30 years ago in a flea market (penny market). Wanted to show it to my jr highschool history class, but know nothing of it.

Do you recognize it?  It is in the UK? Or maybe it's just a generic castle?  I think the writing engraved on it is just a catalog number.

Answer
Hi - I've asked a few other people and we all share the same response.

It's generic, just to "show" a castle - any real castle wouln't have windows like that, especially so near to the ground and the doorway would be much less accessible - after all, the very idea of a castle was for protection against enemies.

Fascinating question, though, thank you!

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
