Question
I'm not sure what your knowledge of Bristol is, but I'm an Indian student transferring to study an undergrad degree in Bristol. I'm basically wanting general information about the city as well as the cultural diversity (particularly Indian). I'd like to know about the things to do, the public transport, etc.. Also, are bollywood films shown there in any theatres and would I be able to find an Indian restaurant?

What are the travel options from Bristol to London and back?

Answer
Hi - thank you for your question.

Bristol is actually one of my favourite cities in the UK!

However, I'm going to direct you towards a couple of websites which will give you all the information you'll require.

I would add that most of the UK is culturally diversified - Bristol higher so than the average... and getting an Indian meal anywhere in the UK is easy .. curry is our National dish!

Getting to and from London is easy on the train or coach - the trains run at 125mph on Britain's straightest rail line (engineered by Brunel) - but do book tickets in advance if you can - you really will save around 80!

The lovely people at Visit Bristol have a website at

http://visitbristol.co.uk

and the local newspaper (always a great way to get a "feel" for a city!) has a good site at

http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/

Finally, this site

http://www.crackerjack.co.uk/bristol/film

gives the latest film details.

It is most important to me, please, that you come back to me if I can help you further in any way: and do enjoy your stay here - one of the main reasons the UK has such a spread of integrated cultures (possibly more so than any other country) is because of the welcome we've always given to students.

Happy to help!

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
