Question
We are first time travellers to Britain, we are cruising out of Harwich, we would like to know
is Gatwick the best airport to enter the UK?
can we get to Harwich by train from there?
we are looking for a place to stay in Harwich, something reasonable
can you direct us with that?

If you have other info please let us know
Thank you

Answer
Hi there

I found the following website http://www.harwich.net/planes.htm which specifically has instructions for getting to Harwich from the major London airports.

Gatwick is probably the furthest with Stansted being the closest. If you go to Heathrow or Gatwick you will have to travel through London to get to Harwich by train or coach. If you fly to Stansted you will be able to get a coach from Colchester.

As I am not sure where you are coming from I am not sure which airport you will come into but if it is the US then it will be Heathrow or Gatwick.

Depending on the timings you may want to arrive a day earlier and spend the night in London or Colchester before heading off.

Taxi fares will be exorbitant for any of these options but if you are 4 or more people it might be worth looking into booking a limo service - especially if you have a lot of luggage.

Let me know if I can offer any more help

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
