AboutIain Reynolds Expertise I live and work in Cumbria, better known as the Lake District. I know the best and the worst about Cumbria. Yes, it does rain a lot in Cumbria, but then we have the best lakes, forests, walks of any where in Northern England. From Wordsworth to the Romans, Cumbria has it all. Just ask me for further (on the spot) details.
Experience Having lived in London for 20 years and then moving away, I realised that I hadn't seen half of "tourist" London. I won't make the same mistake with Cumbria. I have travelled to the top of fells and the the bottom of mines. One day I might just have to leave all this behind and move on. I would regret not exploring one of the best areas of the UK.
Organizations I work for an Agricutural Company based in Cumbria. My work takes me all over Cumbria visiting various farms.

ANSWER: Hi Paul,
Without doubt, the best airport would be Manchester. The airport is about 90 minutes from the southern end of The Lakes and around 2 hours to the northern end. It easy to find your way if you are driving, as the main M6 motorway will take you to all the different part of the lakes.

Answer Hi Paul
The one place that springs to mind would be Ambleside. It is half way between Keswick and Bowness on Windermere. It is a pretty market town on the northern shore of Windermere and has some lovely shops and cafes etc. The countryside around there is really lovely with some great hill and valley walks.
Couple of websites for you to look at should you decide on Ambleside.
