Question
Hi.  I want to travel to Exeter Jan 28-Feb 4 2010 via Gatwick airport.  Other than driving, what is the best way for me to get there in terms of considering time and simplicity?  Cost is important too, but not as much as the other criteria - I don't have much time and get easily lost :)  Thank you for any guidance you can provide!

Answer
Hello Suzy,

Probably the easiest way to travel from Gatwick to Exeter is by train. There is a service with just one change, taking a total of 3 to 3½ hours. Trains leave Gatwick every hour during the day, and the change is at Reading station, rather than having to head in to the massive stations at London.

The cost for this return journey by train would be somewhere between £30 and £200 depending on what time of day you are travelling, and how far in advance you are able to book. Obviously if you know well in advance when you intend to travel, then you fare will be cheaper - particularly if it is off-peak.

You can look up more details of train services, times, connections and the fares involved by visiting the National Rail website at www.nationalrail.co.uk, or if you send me more details of the times of day you are likely to be travelling I could advice you of the likely costs.

Kind Regards
Michael
