Britain/United Kingdom/England/Train from LHR to Dublin

Question
Greetings, Please let me know the most affordable route via train from London Heathrow to Dublin. Please also feel free to advise on other options.
Thank you

Answer
As you may be aware, Dublin is in Ireland, so to get there from Heathrow by land and sea would mean a train into London, one or two trains to the ferry port in Wales, a ferry to Ireland, then a bus and train into Dublin.

Depending on the time of day you're arriving in London, it may take another day to get to Dublin.

I'm sorry but I can't quote fares without further information from you - as a return (round trip) ticket will be cheaper, or you may be entitled to a special fare, based on your age, or the time you're travelling.

That said, it would be much quicker - and possibly cheaper - to fly directly to Dublin from Heathrow.

Feel free to give me some dates etc, and I'll do all I can to help!

Does this help, please?

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
