Britain/United Kingdom/England/Transportation from Southampton to Heathrow
Expert: Michael - 2/15/2009
QuestionWhat are the best options to get from Southampton (2 people arriving on a cruise ship at 0800 on 29 May) to Heathrow? A taxi seems pretty expensive and rail seemed a little complicated. What do you suggest? Thanks much!
AnswerHello Shane,
Thanks for your question.
There are two main options for public transport routes from Southampton to Heathrow.
The direct route is to take a coach. This takes between 90 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the time of day and costs around £15.00 each way. The service departs from Southampton Coach Station.
The other option is the railair link. This is a rail service as far as Woking in Surrey, with a connecting bus service. This service takes a similar length of time, with journeys normally described as being 75 minutes long. The cost is around twice that of the coach.
Clearly, the easiest and cheapest route is by coach, but I understand that some travellers prefer travel by train, hence showing both options.
You can find out specific details of journeys by visiting the national coach and rail websites at:

I hope that helps to answer your question.
