Question
Hi, we are arriving in late June 09 at heathrow airport and need to get somehow to Blackheath Village, London.  Can you give me some ideas of how we can get there.  We would have had a very very long flight from Australia so don't want too much messing around and will have luggage.

Answer
Hi, thanks for your question.

It's a balance between cost and convenience.

Depending on the time of your arrival (as traffic is very slow in both areas on a morning) a taxi would be easiest, at between £80 and £120.

If you want to do this, let me know and I'll see if I can get a more accurate price as a minicab firm may be cheaper.

The alternative is 2 underground trains, then a mainline train, so 2 difficult changes, but at a cost of less than £10 each.

Let me know which is closer to your ideal, please, and I'll be happy to give fuller details.

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
