I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off

Britain/United Kingdom/England - Driving in Winter

Expert: Emoor - 6/24/2009

Question
Is it possible to drive from London to Edinburgh in winter (early Dec) in 9 days?
A group of 12 planning to rent two vans from Gatwick Airport to Edinburgh with overnight stops at Cholderton, Stratford upon Avon, Manchester, Kendal, Glasgow, Inverness (2nights) and Edinburgh.

Answer
Snow or other bad weather is seldom a problem on the motorways.  You will not have a problem making the trip you are planning.  My personal preference would be to make fewer stops.  You will be in six different hotels or B&Bs in eight days. That is a lot of packing and unpacking, and moving in and moving out, which leaves not as much time for enjoying England and Scotland as you might think.

Have a great trip.

(Sorry for the delay in this response.  I am traveling in Italy and did not get the question right away.)
