Britain/United Kingdom/England/Heathrow to Liverpool

Question
Hi. My son and I need to get from Heathrow to Liverpool (preferably near the ferry dock) for as little money as possible. We arrive at Heathrow on the 6th August at 15h00 and need to be at the Ferry Dock by 11h00 the following day (7th August). Dont mind overnighting on train, bus, or any other form of transport. What are our suggestions.

Answer
Kelvin, I'm happy to help.

You've left it too late to get cheap rail fares, but there is a coach leaving Heathrow at 23h59, which arrives in central Liverpool at 06h05 the next morning.

The fare is just over £40 each, assuming your son is an adult - otherwise he'll get a cheaper fare.

The coach station at Heathrow is very well signposted.

This coach can be very busy, so I would strongly suggest that you book online now (http://www.nationalexpress.com) or as soon as you arrive at Heathrow.

I'm not sure what you mean by the ferry terminal, but the usual ferries across the River Mersey are a few minutes walk (downhill!) form the coach terminus.

IF you want any more help, do just ask, please.

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
