We have a party of 4 traveling from London[near Harrod's] to a cruise ship in Southampton and then returning to Gatwick  What is the best way to travel?

For your journey, I would suggest taking a tube to Waterloo where you can pick up a train direct to Southampton Central. On your return, you can also take a direct train from Southampton Central to Gatwick Airport.
I have a brief look at the rather complex routeing guide, and it seems that you would be able to purchase a return ticket (London to Southampton) which would cover your journey back to Gatwick. It may, however, be worth double-checking this with National Rail Enquiries before you purchase your ticket. You can contact them on 08457 48 49 50
