Question
Graham,
My sister & I are planning our trip to the U.K. and one of our questions is what is the best city/airport to fly into? We would also like to what areas are the most affordable to stay in.

Answer
Hi there

Well it depends who you fly with but most airlines come into London to either Gatwick or Heathrow. Heathrow is on the tube line so easier to access and also closer in - and the fare is much cheaper..

If you are planning to stay in London I would look at Fitzrovia as an area to stay as there are many reasonably priced hotels around there and it is pretty central so you would not need to use the tube every day. You can probably stay cheaper further out but that means travelling every day and at night so you will spend more money and time that way.

Hope this helps

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
