Britain/United Kingdom/England/Books about Britishness?

Question
I’m looking for a good, accessible book to help a foreigner understand better what British people are like. For example, what is British understatement? Is British humour different from what we saw among American people?
Previously I read an interesting book by Kate Fox called Watching the British.
Could you pls recommend some good books on this topic?

Answer
Jay, I deeply regret that I cannot help you with this question. I'm an American who is enthusiastic about travel in the U.K., but chiefly my book buying about the U.K. has been either guidebooks or historical books about British places or people. I've never done any book-buying about the British character, I fear. You might try contacting the British Library or the British Tourist Authority (BTA) to see if they have any recommendations. Sorry I can't help.
