Question
We want to go from Glasgow to Lisieux, France next July.  Is it practical to go by train or will it take too long.  How long and how expensive is standard coach?  Is it much quicker to take a plane to Paris (Don't we have to lay over in Heathrow?)

Answer
I believe it is not practical to go by train.  You would actually have to travel from Glasgow to London which is about 5 hours.  Then you would take the Eurostar Train to Paris, another 3 hours.  Then you would take a train to Lisieux, another couple of hours plus layover time.  You would be lucky to make it in one day, and probably would have to stay in Paris for a night.

Flights from Glasgow to Paris are frequent.  Ryanair and other smaller airlines have pretty good prices.  You then get to the Paris Nord  train station and take a train to Lisieux.  You probably can go cheaper by plane than train.

I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off
