Question
Hello! :) I've been wanting to backpack through Europe for a long time and lately I've started to really get into the planning of it. I'm researching as much as I can (Google has really been my friend) but I had a specific question that I can't seem to be able to find the answer to and I was hoping you could help.

Here in the states I'm a music major. Flute specifically and I've been playing for a really long time. Being the budget-conscious student that I am I was wondering if people ever travel to Europe and play on the streets or at train stations for pocket change? I think it'd be a great experience and I've done it before in Chicago, IL and New Orleans, LA so I figured I'd inquire about it. Are there permits you have to have? I plan on travelling to London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Paris, Nice and Rome so if there's any information (even though your listed under the UK) you can give me I'd really appreiciate it :)

Thanks!
Christopher

Answer
Here is how you will get the info you need.  The key word is "busker".

Street musicians are called "buskers".  Check out how to be a busker in London or Paris or wherever. Some places like London require permits and you can find out how that works by using Google as you have been doing.

I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off
