Britain/United Kingdom/England/American coming to London

Question
Hi:
I would like to come to London and purchase a flat. How long can I stay on a passport? Is it up to 6 months? I won't be working during that time, so I don't think I need a visa, is that correct? I am hoping to be able to stay in London 6 months of the year and the balance of the year at my home in Southern California. Thanks for your time. I am so looking forward to London.

Answer
Dear Christina

I think six months is correct but you can check with the British consulate either in the US or online. If you do not plan to work or study then there should be no problem.

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
