Question
My wife and I are planning on attending church services on a Sunday at St Pauls. We would like to dress respectfully but don't want to carry any more clothing than necessary. Church over here in the USA has gotten very casual, shirt and slacks is pretty dressy anymore. What is the custom in England and in particular St Pauls? We are also planning to attend church in Bath, York and Edinburgh so any advise would be really appreciated. Thank you,

Answer
Dear Dave

I think casual smart will be the order of the day - ie chinos shirt possibly a jacket but not necessarily a tie..

If you are planning to go to church in all those other places maybe you could bring over one jacket and one tie..

But I'm sure you will be very welcome!

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
