AboutEmoor Expertise I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off
Question My husband and I are thinking of taking a day trip from London to Edinburgh when we visit this spring. Can you recommend attractions in Edinburgh and a few places to stay overnight? What can we expect to pay for lodging for a night? Would you advise us to make a booking while still in the states, or should we chance it and hope to find a place for overnight? We'll be there in April. Any restaurant recommendations? Thanking you in advance.
Answer A trip to Edinburgh takes about four hours from Kings Cross Station, but a couple of days there is certainly worth the trip. Edinburgh has many outstanding restaurants; try Deacon Brodie's Tavern in the Royal Mile. The fanciest place is The Witchery, just outside of Edinburgh Castle's doors. For just an ordinary hotel, like the Ailsa Craig where I have stayed, you will pay £90 for a double, but if you visit a Tourist Information Office in London, they will book a spot and might save you money for a last-minute reservation at a B&B. Visit Edinburgh Castle, and take one or more of "Robin's Walks" which you pick up at the tourist office near Waverly (train) Station.
