Britain/United Kingdom/England/Ferry crossings

Question
Hi Michael.  We will be crossing from Calais to Dover in Auguist next year - 2 adults and a 2 year old child, with a small car.  Also, that December, will be crossing from Portsmouth to Cherbourg again the 3 of us and again with a car.  I have tried so hard to understand the hundreds of websites on ferry crossings but it's all double dutch to me.  Do you have any knowledge of the ferries, and if so, what do you think a good price for each trip would be?  Any suggestions on the best website to visit?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Lisa

Thanks for your question.

I would recommend the P&O Ferries website for both of these crossings. P&O are the main service provider on both these routes, and have offered good service in my experience. There are of course many more companies offering crossings, particular on the Dover-Calais route (the busiest sea route in the world), but the price differences are limited.

The P&O website can be found at www.poferries.com

As for prices, I have looked very briefly at the site, and would suggest that you should expect to pay between €100 (US$130) and, say €120 (US$155) for a single trip Calais-Dover. For the Portsmouth-Cherbourg crossing, you are probably looking at around twice this.

I hope you enjoy both your crossings, and your time in the UK

Best Wishes

Michael
