Question
Good Day Michael!

I am very excited to fly into London on Christmas day and have arranged for accommodations in Canary Wharf (financial district i believe). I am arriving very early in the morning and I have found that the only option out of Gatwick, it seems , is the Gatwick special coach. But that will only get me as far as Victoria and I have no idea where that is in relation to Canary Wharf as well as how I will get to CW from there. Would you kindly advise? This is my first time in the UK, so I am feeling a bit of anxiety...

Much appreciated,
Esther.

Answer
Hello Esther,

You certainly will find things quiet flying into the UK on Christmas Day! As you rightly say, there are no public transport services from Gatwick except the Gatwick Express coach replacement service which will run approximatly every half hour. The first service leaves Gatwick at 0630, taking approximately an hour to reach Victoria.

The journey from Victoria to Canary Wharf is only around 7-10 miles, although journeys often take longer than you might expect when travelling in London!

From Victoria, I'm afraid there are no public transport services. You would need to make your onward journey by hiring a taxi from the station. If none are available immediately at the station on your arrival, you can telephone to call a registered taxi on 0871 871 8710 from a payphone at the station.

For other information about travel in London over the festive period, you may want to refer to the Transport for London seasonal guide which can be downloaded at their website:

Kind Regards
Michael
