Question Hello,
Thanks so much in advance for your help. I have a couple of questions. No 1. We are flying into Gatwick Airport in June 2008 and it will be in the evening. We will be staying for 4 days so I'd like to be in a central area to see sites. What areas would be good to stay in? Are any of these areas easy transfer to Gatwick Airport? What do you suggest for transportation from Gatwick to a B&B...taxi, train? If train, which one do I take? I am concerned about coming in at night and not having a clue of where to go. Thanks again! All the best, Diane
Answer The Gatwick Express is the fastest way into Central London. Trains leave Gatwick Airport's South Terminal every 15 minutes between 5am and 11.45pm. Standard fares are £14.90 single and £26.80 return. Journey time is 30 minutes and the service is non-stop to Victoria station in London. From Victoria, use a taxi or the Tube (underground) to get to your final destination.
I recommend staying in the Kensington area - it's very close to Victoria Station, and has shops, pubs and restaurants. I've stayed in area a few times, most recently at a comfortable Forte Posthouse hotel on Wright's Lane. It's usually just 1-3 blocks to get to a Tube station, and from there, you can get anywhere in London easily.
