Answer
Hi,

Yes hotels in London are expensive. Usually for two people the cheapest way to London from Gatwick is by the Gatwick Express. This leaves you at Victoria station and one can take a cab to the hotel from there.

I would try to stay in the West End- Mayfair Soho as one can walk to Convent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, the National Gallery and even go to the theatre .

One site for holels which we have used is hotel-assist.com.We used this many times before we used priceline .com If you would like to look into using Priceline go to a site called Biddingfortravel.com and go down to hotels - London England- and read about getting hotels in the Mayfair Soho area. Before you bid read what other folks have gotten. It is often not wise to bid that far in advance., My advice is to book something now so you know you have a hotel and then closer to your date of departure use biddingfortravel.

The savings by going this way are great. read what others have paid for 4 and 5 star hotels.

Having visited London a number of times in the past few years I am familiar with many of the old as well as new attractions to see. As a budget conscious traveler I have recommendations for restaurants as well as hotels which are good value for their money.I am also very knowledgible into websites which give information on hotels, sights etc in London. Feel free to contact me for any London info.
