Question
Hi!  We are traveling to London in September; we will spend several days in London before getting on the cruise boat in Harwich.  What hotel do you suggest that is affordable for our time there, any restaurant recommendations, and what is the best way to get from London to Harwich?  Also, do you know how far it is to Harwich?  Thank you so much!!  Susan and Mark Long

Answer
Hi Susan and Mark,

Sorry I do not know how one gets to Harwich for a cruise ship.

London is very expensive because of the value of the dollar to the pound. it is almost two dollars for every pound spent.

For the best prices in London  Hotels I usually use Priceline.com. If you are unfamiliar with it go to Biddingfortravel.com first and go to the Europe Hotels- England - LOndon. Read about how to bid and how much people have paid. This way gives you your best hotels at great prices. Many use this site prior to cruises.

Here are some suggestions for restaurants.  Look for prix fix meals. Check out Carverys which are good value for your money. Porters is a good value restaurant in the convent Garden area. Chinatown is near the theatre district and there are many moderate priced restaurants there. Also try Pret a Manger sandwich shops for lunches.

Enjoy theatre as that is good value despite the pound. Most museums are free. Don't miss the National Gallery, British Museum etc. Take a cruise down the Thames.

London is a fun city.
