Question
I have found I have ancesters from Ludgate,London in the 1500's and was wondering how to find out what life was like then for them.
and laso, if St. Martin's Church on Silver St. is still there? They were married there.

Thanks in advance,

Carol

Answer
There is a St Martins in Ludgate see http://www.cityoflondonchurches.com/stmartin.htm

I doubt this is the same church though... as it was built by St Chrstopher Wren so perhaps the original was burnt in the fire of London in 1666...

I also came across the church mentioned in the site for the museum of london which may have more information for you on daily life in London back then. www.museum-london.org.uk

also try http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/List%20of%20churches%20and%20cathedral... - this is a free reference site that seems to have a lot of stuff you may find interesting

Happy hunting!

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
