Britain/United Kingdom/England/Question About Tips

Question
Will be spending several days in London and had a question regarding tips for service.  If a service tip is not included with a restaurant bill what percentage should be added for the bill for service for the wait staff?  Also, what amount should be given to taxi cab drivers?

Thanks in advance for your assistance with these questions.

Kevin

Answer
Dear Kevin

Service is usually added up to 12.5%

A normal tip where no service is added is 10% - I think this is plenty!

You do not have to tip cab drivers but you could make up the fare to nearest pound or give them say 50p... They are so expensive now I dont think they expect tips!

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
