Question
Four senior citizens will need transportation next September from Gatwick Airport to Dover England.  We each will have one suitcase and some limited hand luggage.  Several years ago we were able to hire an individual who had is own company and he met us at the airport and took us one way to Dover.  Do you know of anyone who would do this or can you tell us an reasonably cost way to do this transfer?  Our preference would be to use a car, van or similar type of transport.  Please respond to my E-mail address.  Thank you for your assistance.,

Answer
Thank you very much for your question.
You asked me to respond to your private email address, but this is not possible (sorry!) as a) I only see your name and question, for your privacy and b) others will find the answer useful, too!
I trust you understand.

Gatwick is a very big airport, with 2 terminals, "called "North" and "South", so do make sure you know which terminal you are landing at, please.
This web page:
http://www.gatwick-airport-guide.co.uk/terminals.html
is very useful, as it gives you both the terminal and the telephone number of the airline.

"Checker Cars" is Gatwick Airport's official concessionaire. Taxis can be pre-booked with fares paid in advance by cash or credit card, or at the end of the journey. Cars with swivel seats are available for disabled travellers.

Their telephone numbers are:
Checker Cars North Terminal office  44 (0)1293 501377
Checker Cars South Terminal office  44 (0)1293 502808
Their email is: checkercars@aol.com

London Black Cabs also offer airport taxi and transfer services. You can book by phone or online.
Their website is: http://www.londonblackcabs.co.uk/Airport.html
Their telephone number is:  44 (0)7957 696 673

"Gatwick Taxi" is an Internet booking site that provides taxis of various sizes to and from Gatwick Airport.
The site is available at http://www.gatwicktaxi.co.uk/
Their telephone number is a free call from within the UK - 0800 1444 551

Finally, there is "All Transport Solutions"
whose web site is at http://www.alltransport.co.uk/
Telephone   44 8454 100 100
They are "specialists in airport transfers, book and quote online for taxis, executive cars, limousines, 5-8 seater people carriers, 10-29 seater minibuses, 35-53 seater coaches covering all destinations".

Any of these would be happy to give you a free quote - if telephoning, I would follow up with an email - and do remind them a week or so before departure, just for your peace of mind!

Do let me know if I can help further, please!

Expertise

As a full time, UK based, travel journalist, I travel almost constantly around the whole of the UK, searching out restaurants, hotels and "must see" places. Visitors for both business and pleasure are welcome to ask questions. I almost always travel by public transport, so questions on rail, air and coach / bus travel are also very welcome. I also regularly write about and use the "Eurostar" rail service between London and Continental Europe - which uses a tunnel under the English Channel - so I am able to help with any questions there, too.
