AboutEmoor Expertise I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off
Question Do you have any advice or recommendations regarding car rental in the U.K? We will be spending a week in September at a country hotel not far from Fort William. We plan to pick up the car in Manchester, drive to the hotel, and return it to Glasgow. There will just be two of us in the car, but we will have two large and two carry-on sized bags with us. Thank you.
Answer I have rented cars in the UK for a number of years. Recently I have used a service at www.vroomvroomvroom.co.uk, which will take your information and give you prices for a number of rental agencies. You probably will not want a mini or a compact because of all the luggage. The choices you get will enable you to reserve an automatic if you need one. Manual transmission is cheaper and gets better mileage, but automatics are a little harder to find in Britain and it is best to reserve early if you need an automatic. I have had good luck with both Hertz and Avis, but VroomVroomVroom utilizes a those companies and a number of others.
