Britain/United Kingdom/England/dining out on Christmas?

Question
I saw from reading some of the past questions that everything touristy shuts down for Christmas and Boxing Day, but are ethnic restaurants (say, Indian, Thai, African, etc) generally open?  We'll be in London on both of those days this year and were wondering if we should stock up on provisions from the market a day or two before.  Thanks!

Answer
Dear Jen

I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you but the site would not let me log on!

I dont think many restaurants at all will be open centrally as on the 25th as there is no public transport on that day but things will be back to normal on the 26th. Most large hotels that have restaurants will be open but it would be best to make reservations - if you are staying outside central London then ethnic local places may be open as may be places serving Xmas dinner but again it would be best to makle a reservation or enquire direct to the hotel where you are staying.

If you want treats then I would go ahead and shop early! Borough Market at London Bridge is a good place for gastro goodies and is on Friday and Saturday!

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
