The Balmoral Hotel in Harrogate looks a likely candidate for Reniston Hall. It has turrets. I am trying to find out myself.

There are very many posh hotels in Harrogate (Brawton) and it is difficult to tell exactly which one is being referred to, as James Herriot occasionally alters small details in his descriptions.
The one which nearest seems to fit the description is the Majestic Hotel, which certainly dominates Low Harrogate from its slightly elevated position set in its own grounds.

The 'Reniston' is almost certainly the 'Old Swan Hotel'. It's the only one laying claim to 'dominating the landscape' and at the time would certainly have been amoungst the grandest hotels in Harrogate (Brawton). The Old Swan is also famous as the hotel that Agathe Christie 'fled' to during her famous disappearance.
Hope this is of belated assistance!

HI Jerry, I live in Harrogate and I think the hotel James Heriot referred to as the Reniston is the Majestic, one of the big hotels in the town, and which certainly has a slightly elevated position.
Hope this helps!

The Reniston hotel is based on The Crown Hotel in Harrogate.
