AboutEmoor Expertise I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off
Question QUESTION: I am considering sailing on the Queen Mary to Southampton-then I need to get to Luton airport for my flight can you offer suggestions please on the best way to do this (large luggage) so the best least expensive car/bus service would be great. Thank you in advance for your assistance
ANSWER: Sorry for the delay in answering your question. Some of us who enjoy travel leave town from time to time and actually take trips. I just returned from a trip.
Buses would be the least expensive, and they store your luggage in the compartment under the bus, so it is also the least physically demanding. It however, takes longer. There are National Express buses from the Southampton docks to London, and I will happily do a little research to see if there are any direct bus trips to Luton Airport. There are many train trips into London from Southhampton but you would have to get across London to another train to Luton.
You can certainly get car service, and you might want to contact Ray@london-transfers.com to see if you could have Ray or one of his drivers meet you; that would certainly be the most convenient. Check the net also for a business called "Just Airports" which provides car services.

QUESTION: ?direct bus trips to Luton airport from Southampton
also any interesting places I could stop along the way (incase I decide to rent a car and drive myself)
Answer As to your follow-up question, so far I have not been able to find a direct bus trip from Southampton to Luton airport. The trip is an easy one, about 95 miles with motorway all the way -- you take the M-3 from Southampton, catch the M-25 around London, exit at the M-1 for the last 20 miles to Luton airport and then follow the signs. If you drive, you pass Winchester with its famous cathedral not far from Southampton. You also go quite close to Windsor with its castle and other sights as you near London (and Heathrow Airport). Depending on how much time you have, you might even want to stop in London and change to a Luton shuttle. However, if you are trying to do it the same day a car rental or a National Express bus would be better (even if you have to change buses, and that will not necessarily be the case -- just ask at the bus station and get the best directions).
