Britain/United Kingdom/England/A One-month Stay In London

Question
I stayed in the Bloomsbury District for two weeks in 2005 - wonderful.

Do you know how I could go about finding a nice room in a home for about four to six weeks in London.  I can afford to pay $2000 for four weeks.  Are there any property managers or agencies which could assist me?

I am 64, retired from county government, widowed.  For whatever reason, I am drawn to that part of the world.  Would love to visit for awhile.

Transportation and food was easy to come by in Bloomsbury.  I would like to be with a family or in a home though, coming and going as I please.

Thank you very much; how lucky to happen upon this web site.

Answer
Dear Joan

Sorry for the delay in replying but I wwas in New York this week.

I am a bit blank when it comes to answering your query I am sorry to say. I think finding accomodation in a family house in Bloomsbury would be hard as there is not much there in that kind of housing stock and without personal contacts I'm not sure how you could chase something up.

It is also hard to get reasonably priced short term lets - most people want to rent places out for six months or a year and charge a premium to let for anything less.

Sorry not to be of much use but if you chase anything up let me know and I can check it out for you

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
