About Emoor
Expertise
I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off

Britain/United Kingdom/England - Do I need a travel agent?

Expert: Emoor - 5/11/2007

Question
Hi Emoor . . I have taken trip in the US, but this will be my first trip outside of America.  My question is: Do I need a travel agent to help me with purchasing tickets? I have friends in England, so once I am there, I will not have to worry about where to stay or what to do.  I just want to know what the advantages would be to using a travel agent as opposed to booking the flight myself. Thanks very much for your answer, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.  Take care, Margaret

Answer
There is some advantage to finding a good travel agent who is experienced in travel to England because of his/her experience and because you will have an ally should problems develop.  However, many travel agents do not have this specific skill and experience and you can find many websites on your own that make it quite fun and with experience quite easy to book travel to England.

Pinpoint travel at http://www.pinpointtravel.com/  will help you find inexpensive airfares.

Seat Guru at http://www.seatguru.com/  will help you find the best seats on the planes you fly.

Online agencies like Expedia and Orbitz can be helpful in locating and booking travel.

Ask at your local travel agencies to see if there is someone with specific experience in travel to England.
