Question QUESTION: we hope to spend new years eve and a week in Scotland. is there anything in particular you recommend (2 adults kids aged 8 and 12). also want to see snow. where do you recommend is best to stay for a family.
ANSWER: The best place to see snow is in the Highlands, so go to Google and try "Farm Holidays in Scotland, Inverness" or similar websites. Staying in a Self-Catering place, out of the cities in rural areas with a chance to see the Highlands and Loch Ness should be a lot of fun with the two kids. [You may also want to visit Edinburgh for a few days. Stay near The Royal Mile to visit Edinburgh Castle and the other historic sites.]
You do not say where you will be coming from or precisely how long you intend to stay, and that info would be helpful in making specific suggestions.

QUESTION: thanks for your reply.we will be travelling from essex england (possibly catch a flight from stanstead) and want to stay5-7 days.I read about the big street party's held for new years in edinburgh etc - but are they family friendly?
Answer I have not attended the Hogmanay parties at New Years in Edinburgh, but a lot of the events are not recommended for children. Unless you can find someone who has been there and can reassure you about children, be careful.
The countryside locations in the Highlands would be great for the few days you have. Start contacting farm properties now because many of them have already booked. I suggest a couple of websites to start:
