Britain/United Kingdom/England/oyster pass in London

Question
I am travelling in a party of 6 in this month for 3 days in London--assuming we are taking the Underground, what is the most economical way to go? If the oyster pass, where can I get it?

Answer
You can buy an oyster card at any underground station I believe and put pay as you go money onto it so that you pay the lowest possible fare for each journey. You can also top it up as necessary and use it on buses and tube and some trains.

If you will be travelling a lot in the three days it may be cheaper to buy a weekly travel card but then you have to decide which zones you want so it becomes more complicated.

Youi can also buy one day passes each day but these do no start till after 9 I believe.

If you are flying into the UK I would buy the cards - you will need one each - at the airport as you arrive.

You can also then hang onto them for future visits.. I think they charge £3.00 for the card but it halves the costs of tube travel so you will make that money back in 2 journies - it is £4.00 to go a single stop without an oyster card!

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
