AboutEmoor Expertise I have been traveling almost annually in England or Scotland as a tourist for the last 25 years, so I know quite a bit about train travel, car rental, B&Bs, tourist discounts, standard tourist sites, good places to eat, pubs, prices, and things to do off
Question Hello! This seemed like a cool website and I've been seeking some answers so maybe you can help. My husband and I will be traveling to England - we will visit friends in London and also in Stockton-on-Tees - this is much farther north and a bit inland. What is your suggestion on an airport that closest perhaps to Stockton-on-Tees? Or should we fly into an airport closer to London (it might have to be Stansted since we are coming from Stuttgart, DE) What train should we take into London and/or to Stockton-on-Tees and do you happen to know the approximate time/cost for travel?
Thank you so much for your help.
Answer There is a small airport called Teeside near Stockton-on-Tees which gets a few flights per day from the continent, but so far as I know not from Stuttgart. Darlington England also has an airport with some flights from Europe. Flights to the smaller airports can be quite expensive. I believe Hanover has flights to Teeside. Many European cities of course have flights to Heathrow Airport and I suppose some have flights to Stansted.
If you land at Stansted you must get into London (Liverpool Station) and then by underground or taxi get to Kings Cross Station where there are trains to Darlington near Stockton-on-Tees.
You might find it more convenient and economical to visit your friends in London after a flight to Heathrow and the Heathrow Express train or the underground into London. Then take a train from Kings Cross Station north to Darlington and a short train trip to Stockton-on-Tees or have your friends meet you.
To my knowledge there is no easy and direct trip without stops or changes that will get you from Stuttgart to Stockton-on-Tees.
