Britain/United Kingdom/England/vocational education in London

Question
Hello. We are considering a job transfer which would bring our family from the US to London. I have a 19 year old daughter who is mildly mentally handicapped and who will finish high school before we move. She has been considering vocational education programs in the US, but we don't want to leave her behind because of her special needs. I'm trying to find out more information about vocational schools in London, particularly if there are any that are for mentally handicapped. Our daughter is very high functioning and spends about half her school day in regular education programs. In addition she works about 15 hours per week and does well in her job. However, she is not a good candidate for a traditional 4 year college. Any suggestions for vocational ed? Thanks. Sharon

Answer
Dear Sharon

Sorry but this is a bit outside my expertise. But you could try the Mencap website - that is the British organisation for people with learning difficulties. Perhaps they could suggest where you could get further information?

I hope this helps and good luck with the move!

I have been living in London for the last 20 years so can answer general enquiries relating to the city. I also live near the British Museum so I can answer questions on accomodation in that area. I have also travelled extensively in the US so I can offer advice to Americans coming to London on a cross cultural basis.
