Question
Do you know what put Big Ben back by 5 minutes in 1945?

Answer
Hello Karen.
I can't find any reference to the clock being put back in 1945. In fact the clock ran smoothly throughout the war, even when the Houses of Parliament were bombed in 1941. The first time in the 20th century that there was any problem with the clock was in 1962 when it ran slow due to heavy snow on the hands.
