Question
Dear Mark,

Throughout the years, I've heard older members of my family say that my g.g.g. grandmother, Dr. Mary Chase (who married a Strickland from Georgia) was related to Queen Victoria.

I do not know Mary's full name, and unfortunately don't have much information on her except that she was born in England -- probably between 1762 - 1775, and was orphaned as a young girl.

She came to the US when she was a young girl and was raised by an uncle who owned a silk farm in Maryland.

For your information, the lineage is:

Ezekiel Strickland   married Dr. Mary Chase
(b. 1774   d. 1850). They resided in Strickland Town, GA

Their son, Ephram Strickland married Henrietta Livinston
They resided in Strickland Town, GA

Their daughter, Mary Jane Elizabeth Strickland married James Madison Quigley in 1868. They resided in Strickland Town, GA (near Luthersville, GA)

Their daughter, Henrietta Elizabeth Quigley (my grandmother) married John Ganaway Malcolm in GA. Moved to Florida when young couple.

Their son, John Irving Malcolm, was my father.

Can you shed any light on this connection?

Thanks so much.

Sincerely,

Shirley Malcolm Sheppard

Answer
Hello Shirley.
If your ancestor was related to Queen Victoria it would almost certainly be through an illegitimate line, there is no record of anyone called Chase being born into the Royal Family. These things are almost impossible to prove without details of dates, names and places etc.
