Question
After the Battle of Hastings in 1066, who was the most important person in England?

Answer
Hello Duncan.
I assume you mean other than the victorious Duke William. The Saxon claimant to the throne was the 13 year old Edgar Atheling, but he was too young to mount a serious opposition to William. The three most important Saxon figures alive at the end of 1066 were Stigand, Archbishop of Canterbury; Edwin, Earl of Mercia and Morcar, Earl of Northumbria.
