Question
What year did capital punishment end in England and who was
the last victim?

Answer
Hello Jim.
Capital punishment was abolished on 9 November 1965. The last people to be hanged were Peter Allen and Gwynne Evans who were executed on 13 August 1964 for a murder committed at Workington in Cumbria the previous April. Both were hanged at the same time on the same day; Allen at Liverpool and Evans at Manchester. Between then and the Act abolishing capital punishment 15 months later convicted murderers were still sentenced to death, but they were all reprieved.
