Question
Who were the enemies of Queen Elizabeth I?

Answer
In general it was Spain and the Catholics. She was excommunicated by the Pope in 1570 which meant that English Catholics were absolved of their allegiance to her as Queen and could therefore plot her death. She avoided war as far as possible, but was drawn into it by Catholic Spain. Also Irish Catholics rose up in revolt, supported by Spain, at the end of her reign.
