Question
Hi Mark,
Do you know when royalty started wearing crowns? What was the occasion or precedent?  If you don't know, how/where would I research this question?
Thank you very much for your time and expertise.

Answer
Hello Marilyn.
Crowns date back to ancient times, the Egyptian Pharoahs wore a form of headress similar to a crown. It's believed they developed from helmets worn in battle.
A good book is "The Symbols of Sovereignty" by Brain Barker which gives a history of the English and Scottish Royal regalia from ancient times.
