Question
Do you happen to know a book about child crime in 19th century England? Please I need it for a class. It has to be in the 1800's.
It also has to be a non-fiction book. (Based on facts not fiction)

Answer
Hello Amira,

I found these titles:

Black swine in the sewers of Hampstead : beneath the surface of Victorian sensationalism, by Thomas Boyle;

Crime, its amount, causes, and remedies, by Frederic Hill;

Crime, protest, community, and police in nineteenth-century Britain;

Crime and industrial society in the 19th century, by J J Tobias;

'Orrible murder; an anthology of Victorian crime and passion compiled from the Illustrated police news, law-courts and weekly record, by Leonard de Vries.

Now, these are not centered around children as such; you'll have to do a little research within these texts.

I hope this helps Amira.  Ask your local librarian for help in locating these and other titles.

Sincerely,

Joseph Logue

Expertise

I am knowledgeable about English history from about 1400 to 1688, and then from the reign of Victoria (after 1837). I have a particular interest in the monarchy and dynastic relations of Europe from 1800 onwards. I cannot answer questions regarding the latter Stuarts, the early Hanovers, and the politics of the 18th century.
