Question
Hi
I am doing a project on Elizabeth 1 and I cant find whether or not historians have changed their views of her over time
Would you be able to help???
Tara

Answer
Hello Tara.
On the whole historians regard her and her reign in a positive light, with little change in attitudes over the centuries. However the rise of Parliamentary power began in her reign which was to have a devastating effect on the Stuarts 40 years later. It may also be said she papered over long-term problems with short-term solutions and left her successors to sort them out; the Royal finances, the resurgence of Puritanism etc. There are many books on the subject that will give plenty of information.
