British History/Odd paper found

Question
Music
Music
Hi there, this is just a shot in the dark, but I really dont know where else to look. I came across this framed piece of paper at a garage sale that I thought looked neat. After getting it home, I opened it, and found that it is printed on both sides. I believe it is Latin. It looks to be sheet music for maybe an organ? I'm thinking Roman Catholic? It has a 99 on the top right of the page, and the egdes are worn and almost burnt looking. It is crisp on the edges and looks like it has been wet before. But other than that, I cant seem to figure anything else out about it. Can you at least point me in the right direction of who to talk to?

Answer
Hello Cynthia,

What I would do is take it to an antiquarian book dealer.  I don't know where you are in Florida, but they are usually listed under "Books" in the Yellow Pages.  There will probably be an expert who can gauge, almost assuredly just by looking at it, if your item has real age or has been aged for the sake of appearance.  A local college's music department may also give you some information, especially about its purpose and its orchestration.  It could also be German, I'm guessing.

Good luck to you in your search.  It can be half the fun.

Sincerely,

Joseph Logue

Expertise

I am knowledgeable about English history from about 1400 to 1688, and then from the reign of Victoria (after 1837). I have a particular interest in the monarchy and dynastic relations of Europe from 1800 onwards. I cannot answer questions regarding the latter Stuarts, the early Hanovers, and the politics of the 18th century.
