Question
Not sure if this is in your area but:  In what ways was the Great Awakening to extend the concept and practice of democracy in America?

Answer
Hi Sean,

You're right -- this goes a bit beyond my area.  However, I hate to leave someone hanging.

Check out these Web sites:

http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/religion/rel02.html

http://college.hmco.com/history/readerscomp/rcah/html/ah_038300_greatawakeni.htm

http://www.nhc.rtp.nc.us:8080/tserve/eighteen/ekeyinfo/grawaken.htm

http://www.pupress.princeton.edu/titles/6622.html

Remember that there were at least two "Great Awakenings," so make sure you don't confuse them.  That's a start for you.  A couple of warnings, though:  the Web is helpful, but not the only resource available.  Make sure you supplement any online information with trips to the library, where they will be glad to help you find more information.  If this is a school project, make sure you know how to annotate your sources, especially from the Web.  The library will also have excellent guides to help you.

Best of luck to you, Sean, and thanks for visiting AllExperts!

Sincerely,

Joseph Logue

Expertise

I am knowledgeable about English history from about 1400 to 1688, and then from the reign of Victoria (after 1837). I have a particular interest in the monarchy and dynastic relations of Europe from 1800 onwards. I cannot answer questions regarding the latter Stuarts, the early Hanovers, and the politics of the 18th century.
