British History/Queen Victoria Shawl

Question
Our great aunt was given a shawl of Queen Victoria's.  A note attached says "This shawl was once the property of Queen Victoria of England.  It was the prized possession of Sarah Palmer Hook (Mrs. Robert Hook) for many years.  Her father was employed on the estate of the Queen, and at the time of his marriage she presented the bride with this shawl which came from India.  The Queen had many of these beautiful shawls sent to her by her Eastern subjects and she gave them to her friends.  Mrs. Hook prized the shawl very highly, both for its associations and its value, and before her death she gave it to Alice Strang Washburn (Mrs. Robert Washburn) who now owns it".  Any knowledge of these shawls or how I could get it authenticated?

Answer
Hi Jason,

This may be a repeat, since I don't know if my earlier answer went through.  In that message I said that I will get back to you with some information as soon as I can find something for you, but I didn't want to keep you waiting.

Sincerely,

Expertise

I am knowledgeable about English history from about 1400 to 1688, and then from the reign of Victoria (after 1837). I have a particular interest in the monarchy and dynastic relations of Europe from 1800 onwards. I cannot answer questions regarding the latter Stuarts, the early Hanovers, and the politics of the 18th century.
