Question
Do you know which was the most popular port to travel to France from in the 1817's after Napoleon was defeated and people started going back to Europe for lesiure? Also how long would it have taken to get from Calais to Paris in that time period.

Answer
Hello Florina.
The most popular route then is the same as today; the quickest and shortest, Dover to Calais.
I'm not sure about travelling times on French roads. When Louis XVIII fled Paris upon Napoleon's advance on the City in 1815 he raced to the port of Abbeville, which was about 80 miles away, and it took him 17 hours in a carriage. Calais is about 135 miles from Paris, so I guess it would take a day and a half with one overnight stop en route.
